The Waddell & Reed Kansas City Marathon with Ivy Investments

On September 24, 2005, a little more than 3,000 runners traversed the streets of Kansas City, completing race distances from five kilometers to 26.2 miles. This was a noteworthy accomplishment as it officially marked the rebirth of the Kansas City Marathon, along with its affiliated races: the half marathon, five-kilometer run and marathon team relay.

Cited for several years as “one of the fastest-growing marathons in the United States” by marathonguide.com, the Waddell & Reed Kansas City Marathon with Ivy Investments would evolve into a major community event, ultimately attracting nearly 12,000 runners, representing every state in the U.S. as well as several foreign countries – all of it supported by approximately 1,800 enthusiastic volunteers. Under the direction of the race organizer, the Kansas City Sports Commission & Foundation, the Waddell & Reed/Ivy Investments title sponsorship enjoyed a long and healthy run through the 2016 event.
