Mr. Philip J. Sanders
CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Phil Sanders is Chief Executive Officer of Waddell & Reed Financial, Inc. He is also a member of our Board of Directors. As CEO, Mr. Sanders oversees all aspects of the company that, through its subsidiaries, provides proven, professional investment management and financial planning services to individuals and institutional investors. He also serves as President of the company’s asset manager, Ivy Investment Management Company, and served as Chief Investment Officer from February 2011 to June 2019.
Mr. Sanders has over 30 years of experience in the asset management industry and joined the company in 1998 as a portfolio manager. Across his career, he also has held positions as an analyst and as portfolio manager, focusing primarily on the large cap growth category, where for nearly 20 years he managed a range of retail mutual funds and institutional accounts.
Prior to joining the company, Mr. Sanders was affiliated with Banc of America Capital Management, the investment management division of Bank of America. He received his BA in Economics from the University of Michigan and earned a MBA from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Mr. Sanders is a CFA® charterholder and is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society Kansas City.
Mr. Brent K. Bloss
Brent Bloss is President of Waddell & Reed Financial, Inc. As President, he has leadership responsibility for enterprise-wide operational execution of our strategic growth plans and initiatives. He has direct oversight for multiple functions, including the wealth management business, transfer agency, technology, legal/compliance, investment risk management, investment operations and trading, human capital, corporate branding and strategic acquisitions.
Mr. Bloss was appointed President in February 2020. He served as Chief Operating Officer from November 2017 to February 2020 and was Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer from February 2014 to February 2018. Mr. Bloss joined the company as Assistant Vice President and Assistant Treasurer in 2002 and held several finance positions prior to his appointment as CFO, including Principal Accounting Officer and Treasurer.
Prior to joining the company, Mr. Bloss was affiliated with the international accounting firm KPMG LLP, where he held the position of Senior Audit Manager, specializing in both financial service and transportation companies.
Mr. Bloss received his BS in Accounting from Missouri State University. He earned a MBA with a concentration in Finance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Mr. Bloss holds a CPA designation and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He also holds a FINRA Series 27 Financial and Operations Principal license.
Mr. Mark P. Buyle
SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, GENERAL COUNSEL, CHIEF LEGAL OFFICER AND SECRETARY
Mark Buyle is Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Chief Legal Officer and Secretary of Waddell & Reed Financial, Inc. where he leads the legal, investment management compliance, wealth management compliance and transfer agent compliance departments.
Mr. Buyle joined the company in 1995 as senior attorney and, over the years, has provided legal guidance to nearly every area of the company. Mr. Buyle’s range of work has included involvement or oversight of legal work within multiple areas, including compliance, regulatory, corporate and litigation. He most recently served as Interim General Counsel, a role he assumed in April 2018. Prior to that, he was Deputy General Counsel.
Before joining the company, Mr. Buyle was a corporate attorney with the Kansas City law firm Polsinelli. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Kansas State University and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Kansas School of Law.
Mr. Benjamin R. Clouse
SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT AND CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
Ben Clouse is Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Waddell & Reed Financial, Inc. As CFO, he oversees accounting, data analytics, financial planning and analysis, investor relations, mutual fund accounting, procurement, strategic acquisitions, tax and treasury.
Mr. Clouse has served as Chief Financial Officer since February 2018 and was Treasurer from December 2018 to July 2019. Mr. Clouse joined the company in October 2015 as Vice President, Finance and was Chief Accounting Officer prior to his appointment as CFO.
Prior to joining the company, Mr. Clouse served as Chief Financial Officer of Executive AirShare Corporation from 2012 to 2015. From 2006 to 2012 and from 2002 to 2005, he served in various roles with H&R Block, Inc., including Assistant Vice President - Audit Services and Assistant Vice President and Controller - Tax Services. From 2005 to 2006, Mr. Clouse served as Vice President - Finance and Corporate Controller of Gold Bank Corporation, Inc. Prior to 2002, he served in various roles in the audit practice of Deloitte, specializing in the financial services industry.
Mr. Clouse received his BS in Business Administration and earned a Master of Accountancy, both from Kansas State University. He holds a CPA designation and a FINRA Series 27 Financial and Operations Principal license.
Mr. Daniel P. Hanson
SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT AND CHIEF INVESTMENT OFFICER
Dan Hanson is Senior Vice President and Chief Investment Officer of Waddell & Reed Financial, Inc. and the company’s asset manager, Ivy Investment Management Company. He is responsible for leading the company’s investment management division.
Mr. Hanson joined the company in June 2019 and has more than 25 years of investment and leadership experience. Prior to joining the Company, he served as Head of Impact Investing for JANA Partners LLC since 2018. From 2013-2018, Mr. Hanson was with Jarislowsky Fraser Global Investment Management, where he served as Partner, Head of U.S. Equities and Co-Chair of the Investment Strategy Committee. From 2006-2013, Mr. Hanson was with BlackRock, where he served as Portfolio Manager and Managing Director.
Mr. Hanson earned his Bachelor’s degree in Economics and French from Middlebury College, and earned a MBA, Accounting and Analytic Finance, from The University of Chicago. He is a CFA® charterholder and is a member of the CFA Institute.
Mr. Eric J. Meltzer
SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT AND CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER
Mr. Meltzer serves as a member of the firm’s Executive Leadership team and leads the technology teams dedicated to leveraging technology as a strategic asset across the organization, overseeing areas including enterprise technology architecture and infrastructure, cybersecurity, application development and data integration, and service delivery management.
Prior to joining Waddell & Reed Financial, he served as Chief Technology and Operations Officer at OppenheimerFunds, where he led a team of nearly 1,000 people and oversaw multiple functions, including technology, operations and cybersecurity.
His prior experience also includes serving as Chief Technology Officer at Putnam Investments, where he led a 300-person team and oversaw the creation and execution of a technology strategy that enhanced applications, infrastructure and telecommunications. Earlier in his career, he worked at a number of Wall Street firms, including Deutsche Bank and Kidder Peabody & Co.
Mr. Meltzer received a Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering from Boston University, and earned a MS in Operations Research from The George Washington University.
Mr. Shawn M. Mihal
SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT – WEALTH MANAGEMENT
Shawn Mihal is Senior Vice President – Wealth Management of Waddell & Reed Financial, Inc. and President of Waddell & Reed, Inc. (WRI) where he oversees wealth management markets, sales and advisor recruiting, operations, product and planning, and administration and supervision.
Mr. Mihal joined the company in 2015 as Senior Vice President, Chief Compliance Officer and Chief Regulatory Officer of WRI and Ivy Distributors, Inc. He was promoted to Chief Operating Officer of WRI in August 2017 and President of WRI in November 2017. Prior to joining the company, he served as Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer for Transamerica Financial Advisors, Inc. in St. Petersburg, Florida from September 2010 to March 2015 and as Chief Compliance Officer for Great American Advisors, Inc. in Cincinnati, Ohio from October 2004 to August 2010.
Mr. Mihal earned his Bachelor's degree in Business Economics from the University of Cincinnati. He holds FINRA Series 7 and 24 securities registrations and a NASAA Series 66 investment advisor registration.
Mr. Christopher W. Rackers
SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT AND CHIEF PEOPLE AND BRAND OFFICER
Christopher Rackers is Senior Vice President and Chief People and Brand Officer of Waddell & Reed Financial, Inc. In this role, he oversees corporate communications, community and public relations, corporate social responsibility activities, corporate real estate, diversity & inclusion, philanthropy, the enterprise project management organization, human resources and marketing.
Mr. Rackers joined the company in January 2017 as Chief Human Resources Officer and served as Chief Administrative Officer from July 2019 to June 2020. Mr. Rackers has over 25 years of business leadership experience including leadership roles at both public and private corporations. His prior experience includes Senior Vice President, Human Resources at Aramark, Vice President, Human Resources at H&R Block, Vice President, Global Human Resources at WIS International and Vice President, Global Human Resources at Payless ShoeSource.
Mr. Rackers received his BS in Marketing from Missouri State University and his MBA from Texas Christian University.
Ms. Amy J. Scupham
SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT – DISTRIBUTION
Amy Scupham is Senior Vice President – Distribution of Waddell & Reed Financial, Inc. and President of Ivy Distributors, Inc. (IDI), the distributor of Ivy Funds and the financial products and services offered by its affiliates, including Ivy Investment Management Company, the company’s asset manager. In this role, she leads wholesale and institutional distribution, sales and product development, as well as managing strategic relationships.
Ms. Scupham joined the company in 2008 and has held roles in institutional sales and consultant relations, most recently serving as Chief Operating Officer of IDI. She had a key role in building alignment with the firm’s investment management division, while creating a centralized sales operations function focused on prescribed sales processes, training, reporting and systems.
Ms. Scupham graduated from the University of Nebraska at Kearney with a BS in Business Administration in Accounting/Finance. She is a CFA® charterholder and a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Kansas City.
